The former San Francesco Prison is a place of deep historical significance. Originally a monastic complex, it later housed the Preture records office of Naples, eventually becoming the 'Prefecture Palace.' It underwent an extensive renovation project to transform it into the headquarters of the Provincial and Regional Tax Commission, thereby restoring to Piazza San Francesco and Porta Capuana the centrality and vibrancy they have always held for the city.
