Margherita Palace in L’Aquila, an emblem of the city’s government, is a building whose original structure dates back to the 12th century. It has been revised and enriched over the following centuries and is now the town hall.
Rendered unfit for habitation due to the 2009 earthquake, the Palace became the focus of a renovation, consolidation, and seismic adaptation project, which began in 2017. The work was completed in 2023, at a total cost of 11 million euros.
Under the tutelage of M.I.B.A.C., the Palace required a comprehensive intervention that respected the integrity of the monumental building. This included structural work on the walls and foundations—strengthened with micro-pier supports—along with interventions on the vaults and attics to reinforce the decorated ceilings.
